Compose Your Frame

I took this picture 2 years ago on my iPhone 5 when I went fly fishing on the Sacramento river near Whiskey Town, CA. Whats funny is this spot is literally right below the well traveled I-5 interstate but because of all the vegetation this scenic spot was completely hidden. Once I hiked through through the forest and arrived at the river where I could get a could look of what was around me, I was amazed and surprised to see these old bridges that where completely out of site before. Being down at the river bed where I was boxed in by huge bridges (right behind me is the massive I-5 bridge) and surrounded by 200' high Red Wood pines you can imagine how small I felt.
As for the assignment the first thing I noticed were the diagonal lines that the bridges created which pulled my eye into the forest covered hills. The rule of thirds pleasantly applies to this photo as I noticed the vertical lines matched with those of the trees/bridges and the horizontal lines of the riverbank and hills in background that provide the horizon. The bridges diagonal lines create the focal point which is the center of the image where the bridges peacefully disappear into the red woods. I also saw patterns resulting from the bridges supporting pillars and structures which all together make for great picture that brings back many memories.

P.S. The fishing was phenomenal!

Mis-en-Scene: Interstellar

Director of Photography - Hoyte Van Hoytema

This shows Cooper (Astronaut aka Mathew McConaughey) as he's falling into the Tesseract. Instead of just showing the viewer the tesseract by itself, Hoytema put a POV camera from Coopers perspective as he's looking past his legs into this vast planet object that is no ordinary planet. As a result you get a perspective of how big and this mysterious object is.
Once he’s come to a stop inside the tesseract the Hoytema's camera zooms in on Cooper body, showing him floating inside this object as Cooper and the viewer finally realize that they're is looking at Murphs bed room through a different dimension.

The next shots are a sequence of POV shots and close up shots showing his pain as he’s sees Murph but is trapped as he desperately try to communicate with her.

Lastly, Hoytema begins to broaden his lenses while keeping Cooper in sight. This reminds the viewer of the sheer size of this 5th dimensional object, as it seems truly never ending. Also giving the viewer the feeling of isolation and resentment as Cooper ponders his next move.

Nike Baseball vs. Under Armor Baseball - Design Presentation

I've been playing baseball for most my life and have used both Nike and Under Armor (UA) and I don't really prefer one or the other. So without any biases, Nike's baseball webpage in my opinion simply blows UA's out the water. Nike went with the all white look that really gives the consumer a high end, sleek, and clean feel. They also incorporated a wide variety lines, most of which are diagonal that are giving an high energy effect to their product. UA's webpage is clearly more about advertising the benefits of their product and less about the presentation/design, which is evident with the labels on the side and the blurry background. Overall If I where going to buy a pare cleats based off these two webpage screenshots I would undoubtedly go with the Nikes.

Contrast, Balance, Harmony

This is the Kawasaki H2r, its literally the fastest production bike in the world. With a supercharged 1000cc 4-stroke engine that puts out more then 300hp and with sleek aerodynamic body thats designed to be remain stable at speeds well over 200mph. The bikes design alone portrays the balance between speed and power; even if one doesn't know the bikes performance capabilities. In contrast to that the image shows the sun rising in the distance, signifying the freedom and harmony that riding naturally gives you.

Visceral Response

This is a photo I took last month off my iPhone when I was snowboarding on the backside of Timpanogos Mountain in Utah County. This Mountain is Notorious for its incredibly steep slopes and masterful heights. To me this image captures the feeling of weightlessness, similar to the feeling you get in your stomach right before your descent down a roller coaster ride. Not only because your looking off the edge of a near vertical mountain, but also the weightless feeling I get when snowboarding in waist deep powder. In contrast to that I also get this feeling of peace and tranquility coming from many different features. First and most obvious is the wide variety of blues and whites that give you this heavenly feeling inside. Also you have these low energy horizontal/diagonal lines coming from the metamorphic rock formations visible on the mountain across the canyon, as well the horizontal line of the horizon. However, many steep high energy diagonal lines are also present, representing the gradient of the mountain slopes. Lastly, the low lying clouds in the valley make you feel as if your up in the stratosphere. All in all this photo is truly stupefying in my opinion.
