Mis-en-Scene: Interstellar

Director of Photography - Hoyte Van Hoytema

This shows Cooper (Astronaut aka Mathew McConaughey) as he's falling into the Tesseract. Instead of just showing the viewer the tesseract by itself, Hoytema put a POV camera from Coopers perspective as he's looking past his legs into this vast planet object that is no ordinary planet. As a result you get a perspective of how big and this mysterious object is.
Once he’s come to a stop inside the tesseract the Hoytema's camera zooms in on Cooper body, showing him floating inside this object as Cooper and the viewer finally realize that they're is looking at Murphs bed room through a different dimension.

The next shots are a sequence of POV shots and close up shots showing his pain as he’s sees Murph but is trapped as he desperately try to communicate with her.

Lastly, Hoytema begins to broaden his lenses while keeping Cooper in sight. This reminds the viewer of the sheer size of this 5th dimensional object, as it seems truly never ending. Also giving the viewer the feeling of isolation and resentment as Cooper ponders his next move.
